Dr. Ariyan Kabir
Co-Founder & CEO, GrayMatter Robotics
Dr. Ariyan Kabir is the Co-Founder and CEO of GrayMatter Robotics, one of the fastest-growing AI robotics companies in North America. Under his leadership, the company has grown from a university research breakthrough to a commercial force with smart robotic cells installed in factories across the U.S., a team of over 100 employees, and a 100,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Carson, California. GrayMatter Robotics’ $45 million Series B, covered by TechCrunch, VentureBeat, and the LA Times, reflects the market’s confidence in the company’s trajectory.
Ariyan founded GrayMatter Robotics to solve a problem he encountered firsthand during his doctoral research: the gap between what robots could theoretically do and what manufacturers actually needed them to do. His Ph.D. work focused on planning and learning algorithms for high-degree-of-freedom robotic systems—the foundational AI that now powers GrayMatter Robotics’ proprietary GMR-AI™ software, enabling robots to program themselves and work autonomously with the push of a button. His research produced multiple patents and publications in leading technical forums.
The company he built around that research now addresses one of manufacturing’s most urgent crises: 3.8 million unfilled jobs in the United States. GrayMatter Robotics’ AI-powered robotic cells operate 2–4x faster than manual labor, reduce consumable waste by up to 30%, and cut rework by 90%—delivering measurable ROI to manufacturers in aerospace and defense, specialty vehicles, marine, and composites fabrication. The company’s Robots-as-a-Service model eliminates the upfront capital barrier, making advanced automation accessible to small and mid-sized manufacturers for the first time.
Ariyan’s work has earned recognition from the National Science Foundation and Robotics Business Review. He has been featured on the main stage at Web Summit, by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and as a Forbes Technology Council contributor, where he writes on topics including human-centered automation, generative AI in robotics, and the deployment of intelligent manufacturing systems.
GrayMatter Robotics is a well-capitalized Physical AI company headquartered in Los Angeles, building toward Factory SuperIntelligence (FSI), where intelligent machines learn, adapt, and improve the way factories run. Our robots take on the tedious, hazardous, and ergonomically demanding work that has kept manufacturing dependent on a shrinking skilled workforce. Delivered through a Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model, our systems improve with every part they touch, learning from one of the largest real-world manufacturing datasets ever assembled. We work at the intersection of AI, robotics, and manufacturing, and we hire people who want to solve hard physical problems at industrial scale.
